Job Summary:
The position of SBA Lender is responsible for developing small business relationships by offering SBA products.
The officer will gather credit information on current and potential borrowers, negotiate, analyze and coordinate the approval and closing of major and complex SBA guaranteed loans.
Responsible for understanding the SBA’s Standard Operating Procedures, SBA eligibility and the Bank’s lending policies and procedures.
The position of SBA Lender is responsible for attaining established Bank and department goals through active participation in promoting the SBA loan product line with bank officers and assisting officers on their call programs.
The position will be focused on negotiating credit terms, such as costs, loan repayment methods, and collateral specifications.
Negotiate interest rate structure to be consistent with bank policies and procedures and be competitive with current market rates.
Responsibilities and Duties: • Work independently to develop and solicit new business from present and prospective clients for SBA loan products • Analyze credits, understand SBA eligibility, and present opportunities to the bank • Complete loan applications, gather financial information, and work with customers throughout the application and closing process.
• Handle negotiations and credit assessments on an independent basis and appropriately identify customer and transaction credit risks.
• Work with Underwriting and SBA team to assist in moving the request through application, underwriting, closing and related servicing activities and ensuring that all SBA requirements are met.
• Interface with other managers, bank staff, Commercial and Business Bankers to provide the teamwork and knowledge needed to develop and maintain awareness of the SBA (7a) Line of Business.
• Establish strong referral network and relationships with commercial real estate brokers, loan brokers CPAs, accountants, lawyers etc.

• Direct calling on third party groups (CDCs, and other government agencies) throughout assigned geographic markets in a direct effort to develop credit enhanced loan leads.
• Once loan process is completed, work with appropriate Relationship Manager to seamlessly hand off the customer for ongoing relationship management.
• Attention to regulatory requirements and compliance training applicable to position (Bank Secrecy Act, Customer Information Privacy ETC) • Integrity, discretion, and respect for confidential information are essential.
Job Skills and Qualifications: • Excellent communication skills required for major contact with customers, executive management, and the public often involving difficult negotiations and requiring skill and resourcefulness in maintaining good will toward the Company.
• Superior business development, customer relations, and decision-making skills essential.
• Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 4 years’ experience in the financial industry to include 2 years’ experience with SBA lending, or an associate degree with a minimum of 4 years’ experience in the financial industry to include 4 years’ experience with SBA lending.
• Must have thorough knowledge of bank policies and procedures.
• Valid state driver's license, proof of insurance and available transportation.
