THE POSITION Building Facilities Department - Roseburg Courthouse/Justice Building Full time position available with competitive full-family benefit package.
PERS/OPSRP retirement and availability of deferred compensation retirement savings.
Onsite (Courthouse complex) childcare available at a discounted employee rate through Roseburg Professional Childcare (Fowler St.
location only).
Availability is subject to center waitlist.
The classifications within this four-level series perform basic up to journey-level duties in corrective and preventative maintenance on County buildings, grounds, and facility equipment; participates in all associated duties, including remodels, with assignments prioritized by employee’s certification or licensing and/or based on specialty or skill level as determined by department head or supervisor; operation of hand and power tools.
On a regularly scheduled basis, participates in the morning opening or evening closing of buildings and facilities.
and participates in department’s staff rotation to be available to receive after-hour emergency calls.
Essential Functions: Building Maintenance Technician 1: Inspect and perform basic repair to a variety of equipment, including but not limited to, heating/air units, ventilating and exhaust systems, laundry appliances, docks, railings, and other out-buildings and facilities as applicable.
Assess building and facility maintenance needs and report them to supervisor for development of maintenance plans.
Perform basic cleaning and/or sanitation of county buildings which includes, but not limited to: clean, mop, strip, wax, and buff floors; shampoo carpets; wash windows, blinds, walls, ceilings; clean and disinfect restrooms, dust and clean furniture; refill supplies.
Update and maintain records of department vehicles and equipment; schedule vehicles for preventative maintenance and servicing with the fleet services division; assure vehicles are clean and in usable condition.
Building Maintenance Technician 2: Assume responsibility for assigning and directing work of one or more county correction facility inmates in maintenance projects throughout county buildings; coordinate inmate crews with other department staff and programs.
Inspect, repair, and maintain heating, ventilating, air conditioning and exhaust systems which includes but is not limited to, pumps, motors, fans, electrical controls, air compressors, boilers, water heaters, chillers, and tanks.
Take samples and test heating, cooling, and boiler water as needed.
May serve as department safety representative assuring training and compliance of staff to OSHA standards; may represent department on County central safety committee.
NOTE: All positions require regular and consistent attendance.
At time of appointment, must possess a valid Oregon driver’s license.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: For Building Maintenance Technician 1 ($17.
83 - $23.
54 Hourly): At least two years technical training, apprenticeship training or progressively responsible work experience in building construction or building and mechanical maintenance which affords practical experience required to perform the duties of the position OR any satisfactory equivalent combination of responsible work experience and/or technical training.
Desired Qualifications: Any certifications related to one or more building trades.
For Building Maintenance Technician 2 ($20.
05 - $26.
45 Hourly): At least four years of successful technical training, ongoing apprenticeship, or progressively responsible work experience in building construction or building and mechanical maintenance which affords practical experience required to perform the duties of the position (examples include plumbing, electrical, HVAC, or appliance repair), AND at least one applicable building trade certification and/or license; OR any satisfactory equivalent combination of responsible work experience and/or technical training including at least one applicable building trade certification and/or license.
Desired Qualifications: Electrical limited maintenance (LME) license or equivalent; any combination of trade certifications and completed building trade apprenticeships.
In addition to the above, applications will be further evaluated to determine each applicant’s knowledge, skill and abilities as they relate to each specific position.

Physical Requirements: This work involves bending, climbing ladders and through confined areas and/or in high locations, color identification, crawling, gripping with hands, hearing alarms and voice conversation, working with special equipment, conditions and safety protocols, lifting and carrying up to 60 pounds, operating power tools, working with common exposure to paints and chemicals, pulling, pushing, standing, stooping, twisting and walking.
Work is performed in an environment, which involves everyday risks or discomforts and sometime adverse weather conditions requiring safety precautions.
SCREENING & EVALUATION Background Investigation: While not part of initial applicant screening, the finalist for this position may be required to pass a criminal history background check as part of a contingent offer of employment.
Conviction of a crime may not necessarily disqualify an individual from employment.
Successful candidates for this position must also pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check.
The CJIS Clearance is done within the first 30 days of employment and is processed at no expense to the applicant/employee.
Employment is contingent upon a pre-employment drug screen.
Presence of non-prescribed drugs, including marijuana, on drug screen results will result in disqualification pursuant to the County's drug and alcohol policy.
To determine if physically qualified to perform essential functions, employment offer is conditional upon satisfactory results of a post-offer medical and hearing exam conducted at county expense.
Position requires a considerable amount of driving.
Finalist will be required to provide a court print driving record that meets the Douglas County Driver Policy, as part of contingent offer of employment.
